The Assa-Abloy Group ( proper spelling ASSA ABLOY ) is a Swedish , globally operating group of companies that produces and sells locking systems , electromechanical products, security doors and fittings . The company has been listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange (now Nasdaq OMX , Stockholm) since 1994 .

Assa Abloy has five divisions: EMEA , Americas , Asia - Pacific , Global Technologies and Entrance Systems.
- The EMEA division operates in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Europe, Middle East and Africa, EMEA). Brands include: ABLOY, ASSA, IKON , TESA , Yale and Vachette . The headquarters of the division are in London .
- The Americas division is active in North and South America. Brands include: Corbin Russwin, Curries, Emtek, Medeco, Phillips, SARGENT and La Fonte. The division management is based in New Haven (Connecticut) , USA.
- The Asia-Pacific division operates in Asia and Oceania. Brands include: Lockwood, Guli, Wangli, Baodean, Tianming, Shenfei, Interlock and iRevo. The division management is based in Hong Kong, China.
- The Global Technologies division is active worldwide. Its HID Global division produces and sells products for electronic access control, secure ID systems and identification technology . The Assa Abloy Hospitality division deals with the manufacture, sale and service of electronic locking systems and software for hotels and cruise ships. Brands: HID, Fargo, Elsafe and VingCard.
- The Entrance Systems division produces, sells and services automatic door systems. Product brands are Besam (automatic doors), Crawford (gates), Megadoor (lift gates) and Albany (high-speed doors). The division management is based in Landskrona , Sweden.

Products and market
Product categories
- Mechanical locking products. They consist of a key , a lock cylinder and a locking mechanism. Examples: door locks, bolts, mortise locks , padlocks, door handles and emergency exit devices .
- Electromechanical and electronic locks. Examples: electric mortise locks for high security applications with narrow door profiles or modular doors, electric door openers, electromagnetic locks, electronic hotel locks, emergency exit devices.
- Padlocks. For high security locks in industry and manufacturing, in mining and at airports. Simple padlocks for home users. Padlocks are also available as combination locks.
- Access control systems. For physical and logical access controls with identity verification. Control is wired or wireless, via private or public networks. Common in buildings with high traffic.
- Smartphone key. NFC -compatible smartphones for identification and access control. The Assa-Seos system creates and transmits virtual keys that can be used to open NFC-enabled digital locks.
- Automatic doors. Revolving doors, swing doors, sliding doors, air curtains, grilles, shutters, garage doors and automatic industrial doors (hall doors, overhead doors, high-speed doors and folding doors) as well as docking systems for retail and logistics.
- Door closer. Automatically close after the person has passed the door. Visibly and invisibly mounted door closers, door stays, floor springs, closers for special doors and electromechanical door drives.
- Emergency exit devices and panic door locks. Prevent unauthorized access to buildings, systems, etc. without hindering exit in an emergency. Panic exits have a handle bar or a lever lever for emergency opening.
- Hotel locks. Electronic locks, NFC locks, room safes. Energy management systems for integration in hotel locking systems. Identification solutions with smart cards , magnetic cards or NFC-enabled cell phones.
- Security doors . Fire-certified, storm-proof, explosion-proof, electronic security doors and door frames.

Locations
Germany
The group includes the German company Assa Abloy Sicherheitstechnik , which emerged from the companies IKON, eff eff , Melchert, Dörrenhaus and BAB IKON. The company develops, produces and sells mechanical and electromechanical security solutions for protection, security and comfort in buildings. The products include security locks, locking and access control systems, escape route technology, electric door openers and bolts, electric holding magnets and hold-open systems.
Assa Abloy Entrance Systems Germany is the German division for entrance solutions and access systems with the areas of automatic doors, industrial doors and loading systems.
KESO is represented in Germany by an independent subsidiary, KESO GmbH, based in Buchholz in the Nordheide . Effective January 1, 2014, KESO GmbH was merged with Assa Abloy Sicherheitstechnik under one roof. The Buchholz location will continue to exist for all customers of the KESO and Assa brands.
Switzerland
The traditional Swiss company KESO , now under the name Assa Abloy (Schweiz) AG, has been 100% owned by Assa Abloy since 2004 . The company holds more than 300 patents and produces locking systems for private households as well as for large companies or institutions.
CEDES AG has been 100% owned by Assa Abloy since 2014. CEDES AG in Landquart manufactures intelligent optical sensors for lifts and escalators and other public transport .
MSL lock and fittings factory in Kleinlützel has also been part of the Assa Abloy group since spring 2015 .
Belgium
Assa Abloy Belgium NV emerged from the merger of the companies Litto and Duperay in 2006 and is represented in Belgium at the production site in Nieuwport and with a sales office in Wemmel .
Netherlands
Assa Abloy Nederland sells the Nemef and Lips products on the Dutch security market.
Austria
The group of companies has been operating in Austria since 2003 under the name Assa Abloy Austria and has sales offices in Salzburg and Vienna . In 2010 the Mul-T-Lok dealer Seccom was integrated.
Competitors
Assa Abloy has five main competitors: Ingersoll-Rand (USA), Stanley Black & Decker (USA), Dorma (Germany), Kaba (Switzerland) and Hörmann (Germany). All are strongly represented in their respective local markets as well as internationally. Numerous smaller competitors operate in Asia. However, none of them have a dominant market position.
Company history
The Assa-Abloy Group was founded in 1994 when ASSA AB split from the Swedish security company Securitas AB . Shortly thereafter, the takeover of the Finnish manufacturer of high security locks, Abloy Oy, a subsidiary of the Finnish company Wärtsilä, followed . In the same year the Assa Abloy Group was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
Bigger acquisitions
- Yale: Assa Abloy acquired British Yale in March 2000.
- Cardo : In December 2010 Assa Abloy acquired a majority stake in the Cardo industrial group from the investment company LE Lundbergföretagen, which u. a. Manufactures industrial doors, garage doors and pumps, and placed a bid for the remaining shares. In 2011 the takeover of Cardo was completed. Cardo is now part of the Assa Abloy Group under the name Crawford.
From 1994 until today
- 1994: The Swedish company ASSA and the Finnish company Abloy merge to become Assa Abloy. The new company was listed on November 8, 1994 on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
- 1996: Assa Abloy takes over Essex and enters the US electronic security market.
- 1997: Takeover of the French Vachette group, including the group units Vachette, JPM, Laperche and Bezault (all France) and Litto (Belgium).
- 1998: Expansion in North America through the takeover of Medeco . Opening of a branch in China and acquisition of Precise Security Supplies (Hong Kong).
- 1999: Takeover of Mul-T-Lock , an Israeli manufacturer of high security locks. Takeover of the German company effeff and thereby expansion of the position on the market for electromechanical locking solutions. Further acquisitions, including Lockwood in Australia and Fichet in France (both companies manufacture high security locks). Acquisition of AKI Aktiebolaget KÅFS Industrier (second largest locksmith in Sweden).
- 2000: Takeover of the international security technology group Yale Intruder Security. With the acquisition of HID, Assa Abloy is expanding its portfolio to include electronic identification and access control solutions.
- 2001: Assa Abloy participates in the regatta Volvo Ocean Race . The company buys u. a. Interlock (New Zealand) and TESA (Spain).
- 2002: Acquisition of Besam, a Swedish manufacturer of automatic passenger doors. Assa Abloy takes second place in the Volvo Ocean Race.
- 2003: Carl-Henrik Svanberg resigns as Chairman and CEO of Assa Abloy and becomes Chairman and CEO of the telecommunications company Ericsson . Bo Dankis succeeds him.
- 2004: Assa Abloy launches Hi-O, a platform for networked access control systems and electronic doors. Acquisition of the Security Merchants Group (Australia and New Zealand).
- 2005: Bo Dankis resigns as CEO and is replaced by Johan Molin, who previously headed the Nilfisk-Advance industrial group. Majority stake in Wangli, a leading manufacturer of high security doors and locks in China.
- 2006: Acquisition of Fargo Electronics , a developer of security systems for issuing bank cards, debit cards, credit cards and ID cards.
- 2007: Several acquisitions, including Baodean (China) and iRevo (South Korea), a large supplier of digital door locks. New brand strategy: Assa Abloy becomes the Group's main brand.
- 2008: Presentation of Aperio, a platform for the wireless integration of mechanical locks in access control systems. Several acquisitions, etc. a. from Beijing Tianming and Shenfei (China), Gardesa and Valli & Valli (Italy), Copiax (Sweden), Cheil (South Korea) and Rockwood (USA).
- 2009: In the 15 years since it was founded, the group has increased its size almost tenfold. Acquisition of the Italian Ditec group, which manufactures products for automatic entrances (sectional doors, high-speed doors, locks and barriers).
- 2010: Presentation of Assa Abloy Mobile Keys, a smartphone locksmith based on NFC. Agreement with the investment company LE Lundbergföretagen to acquire a majority stake in the Cardo industrial group, which manufactures industrial doors, garage doors and pumps, among other things, and the submission of a bid for the remaining shares. Further acquisitions, etc. a. from Pan Pan (largest manufacturer of steel high security doors in China), King Door Closers (door closer manufacturer in South Korea), Paddock (UK), ActivIdentity, Security Metal Products and LaserCard (all USA). Acquisition of shares in Agta Record (Switzerland).
- 2011: Completion of the Cardo acquisition. The company is now owned by Assa Abloy under the Crawford name. Takeover of FlexiForce. With Cardo and FlexiForce, the range of industrial doors, docking systems and garage doors is to be expanded.
- 2012: Acquisitions in the USA: 4Front (manufacturer of docking solutions), Frameworks Manufacturing Inc (manufacturer of aluminum door frames and doors for interiors) and Albany Door Systems (high-speed doors for industry). In China: Sanhe Metal (manufacturer of fire and security doors) and Shandong Guoqiang Hardware (window fittings). In the UK: Securistyle Group Holdings Limited and Traka. Canada: Helton. Presentation of Seos (NFC-based system for generating digital keys for smartphones ).
- 2013: Forbes ranks Assa Abloy 78th among the world's most innovative companies. Acquisitions: Mercor SA (Poland), manufacturer of fire and security doors; Ameristar (USA), manufacturer of high security fences and gates; Amarr, manufacturer of folding doors.
- 2014: Acquisitions: IdenTrust (USA), digital authentication; Lumidigm (USA), biometric recognition. Forbes ranks Assa Abloy 93rd among the world's most innovative companies.

Volvo Ocean Race
Assa Abloy sponsored a regatta yacht of the same name for the 2001/2002 Volvo Ocean Race and, with skipper Neal McDonald (GB), achieved second place overall (55 points) after four stage wins.
Cooperation with colleges and universities
Assa Abloy is one of the members (“partners”) of the Stockholm University of Economics and Business School's partner program for companies that make a financial contribution to the university and work closely together in the fields of research and education. In 2015 Assa Abloy became a partner at KTH Things, a startup headquarters for companies for the Internet of Things.
