history
Assa Abloy Sicherheitstechnik GmbH was founded in 2005 from the two main companies effeff Fritz Fuss and IKON in Berlin . Melchert, Dörrenhaus and BAB IKON also belong to the company . BAB-Ikon was merged with IKON AG in 2004. The mechanical cylinders are produced in the Ikon factory on Goerzallee in Berlin-Zehlendorf .
The Albstadt plant currently employs around 380 people and the Berlin plant around 400.
Effeff brand
The effeff brand is one of the world's leading brands for electromechanical locking and unlocking. The products include electric strikes, electric bolts, security locks, access controls and escape route technology, which are now sold in over 75 countries around the world. Effeff sells its goods mainly to specialist dealers .
Zeiss Ikon brand
Zeiss Ikon is considered to be the first manufacturer of profile cylinders. The dimensions of modern cylinders have their origins in the profile cylinder developed by Sylvester Wöhrle, an engineer from Actiengesellschaft Hahn for optics and mechanics in Ihringshausen near Kassel , a subsidiary of the optical institute CP Goerz . This development was registered for the patent "Lock cylinder with security lock" in 1924 . In 1927 this patent went to Zeiss-Ikon and was later incorporated into DIN 18252.
The Zeiss Ikon brand was spun off from Carl Zeiss AG in 1989 and transferred to the Assa Abloy Group under the name "Ikon". Profile cylinders and keys are produced in the Berlin plant.
