Karen Davis

Karen Davis (born February 4, 1944) is an American animal rights activist, lecturer, author and founder of United Poultry Concerns , a non-profit organization that was founded in 1990 to protect domestic poultry.

She is the author of several books on veganism and animal rights, including Prisoned Chickens, Poisened Eggs: An Inside Look at the Modern Poultry Industry  (1997) and The Holocaust and the Henmaid's Tale: A Case for Comparing Atrocities  (2005). Karen Davis also wrote the foreword to Michael Lanfield's book The Interconnectedness of Life, published December 6, 2014.

Davis was born on February 4, 1944 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Amos and Mary Elizabeth Davis. Amos was Blair County's District Attorney from 1966 to 1975 . Karen Davis graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 1962. She studied at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and graduated in ,, English "at the University of Maryland , where she later also taught English, too, she met there a teaching position;. She criticized repeatedly the commercial factory farming In 1990 she founded. the animal rights organization United Poultry Concerns and in 1999 they succeeded in banning the forced moulting common in the USA , which was triggered in chickens by a starvation diet lasting several days. Davis married Dr. George Allan Cate (deceased). She has three brothers: Tim Davis, Amos Davis and Andrew Davis.
