The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation ( English Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben) briefly Aksarben Foundation is a civil organization in the city of Omaha in the US state of Nebraska . The main concern of the organization, which has been in existence for more than a century, is the cultural enrichment of the city of Omaha .

"Ak-Sar-Ben" is the backwards written name of the state of Nebraska and later became the name of the Omaha cultural center built on the initiative of the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben .

history

In 1895, the city of Omaha was home to the Nebraska State Fair, the Nebraska state parade. But since there was no family-friendly form of recreation in the city, the State Fair was to move to the city of Lincoln. To prevent this , around 60 business people from the city met on March 28, 1895 . As a result, 12 of them formed the Executive Committee of the Omaha Businessmen's Association.

On trips to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans and events in other cities in the United States , these people found their respective municipal organizations, based on the model of which one was later to emerge in Omaha . During the return trip, one of the twelve gentlemen claimed that everything was going the wrong way in Omaha and then suggested that the municipal organization, which was to be founded for cultural enrichment, should bear the reverse pronounced name of their state, Nebraska . So it happened and the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben were founded. They made it their mission to found "a prosperous heartland" where communities can flourish and all children can thrive. The organization still exists today for an unchanged purpose.

Structure of the organization

Today there are different types of member states:

1. The "Board of Governors" which includes the board members of the association.
2. The ordinary members (Councilors) are summarized in "His Majesty's Council", which forms the council assembly.
