Jean-Louis Pahud (* 1909 in Lausanne , Canton of Vaud ; † 1993 ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Pahud entered the diplomatic service and was a member of the economic delegation in Poland . On February 1, 1939, he became a legation attaché in the Foreign Ministry, the Federal Political Department (now the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs ), and between 1942 and 1947 he was employed as legation secretary at the legation in Egypt , where in 1946 he was promoted to first class legation secretary. On February 14, 1963, Pahud succeeded Robert Maurice as ambassador to Belgium and remained there until July 28, 1967. At the same time, he was accredited for Luxembourg and was replaced as ambassador by Philippe Zutter . He then took over the post of Ambassador to Mexico from Fernand Bernoulli on September 24, 1967 and held this office until December 31, 1970, after which he was replaced by Alfred Fischli . As ambassador to Mexico, he was also accredited to represent Switzerland in the Dominican Republic , Haiti and Jamaica . During this time he represented the Federal Council on August 4, 1970 as Ambassador Extraordinary, Special Envoy and Head of the Delegation at the inauguration of the President of the Dominican Republic Joaquín Balaguer . He also represented the Federal Council on December 29, 1970 as Ambassador Extraordinary, Special Envoy and Head of the Delegation at the inauguration of the President of Mexico Luis Echeverría Álvarez .

Most recently, Pahud succeeded René Naville as ambassador to Portugal on October 5, 1970 and remained in this position until he retired on January 31, 1975, after which Giovanni Enrico Bucher became his successor there.
