Max König (born January 21, 1910 in Thun ; † January 27, 1997 ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

On January 4, 1946, König became consul in Baden-Baden and then, in 1947, legation secretary at the legation in France , before becoming head of the service for European economic cooperation in the trade department in the Federal Department of Economics (now the Federal Department of Economics, Education and Research) in 1950 ) has been. Subsequently, on May 3, 1957, he replaced the envoy Emile Bisang and became the first ambassador to Pakistan with his official seat in Karachi . He held this post until May 28, 1960.

On August 22, 1960, König took over the post of envoy in Guatemala from Werner Fuchss . As such, he was also a representative in Costa Rica , Nicaragua and El Salvador accredited . After the legation was converted into an embassy , he became the first Swiss ambassador to Guatemala on September 13, 1962 and held this post until May 11, 1963, after which he was replaced by Jean Humbert . He himself had already replaced Arturo Marcionelli as ambassador to Iran on March 29, 1963 and remained there until February 24, 1970, after which Daniel Gagnebin became his successor there on June 19, 1970.

Most recently, König succeeded Egbert von Graffenried as ambassador to Australia on May 26, 1970 and remained there until he retired on December 31, 1975. He was succeeded on March 10, 1976 by Marcel Grossenbacher .
