Daniel Gagnebin

Daniel Gagnebin (born January 15, 1917 in Lausanne , Canton of Vaud ; † 1998 ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Gagnebin entered the diplomatic service and on April 16, 1946, he was embassy attaché to the embassy in Turkey, and on December 23, 1947, he was secretary in the Foreign Ministry, the Federal Department of Political Affairs (now the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs ), where he served on January 21 1955 became deputy head of section as adjunct. In this position he was promoted to Secretary of the First Class on April 29, 1955, after which he was employed at the Legation in Greece from May 16, 1955 to October 2, 1957 . Gagnebin then acted as Consul General in Strasbourg between September 6, 1965 and September 1, 1967 . At the same time, on September 6, 1965, he succeeded Henri Voirier in the rank of envoy and permanent representative of Switzerland to the Council of Europe . As such, he was raised to the rank of ambassador on December 27, 1967 and served as head of the permanent mission until April 30, 1970, whereupon André Dominicé was his successor there. He himself took over the post of Ambassador to Iran from Max König on June 19, 1970 and held this post until November 13, 1974. At the same time, he was accredited as a representative in Afghanistan . His successor as ambassador to Iran on September 30, 1975 was Charles-Albert Wetterwald .

Most recently, on November 14, 1974, Gagnebin replaced Hans Karl Frey, who died in office on August 9, 1974, as ambassador to Egypt and remained there until he left the diplomatic service on May 21, 1980, when Jean Cuendet succeeded him. At the same time he was accredited as a representative in Sudan between November 14, 1974 and May 21, 1980, with his office in Cairo .
