Jean Cuendet

Jean Albert Cuendet ( April 12, 1929 , † 1988 ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Cuendet, whose father Albert Cuendet was also a diplomat and, among other things, consul general in Turin from 1960 to 1961 , entered the diplomatic service and was, among other things, embassy attaché to the embassy in Yugoslavia between January 13 and October 31, 1957 . After various other assignments, he worked from 1968 to 1970 and was most recently head of the International Law Section in the Directorate for International Law in the Foreign Ministry, the Federal Political Department (today the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs ). He then found between July 1970 and October 1973 use as counselor at the embassy in thePeople's Republic of China and between 1973 and December 1975 as Counselor at the Embassy in Lebanon , where he was permanent representative of the Ambassador. Later he was head of the Political Secretariat in the Political Department from 1976 to 1978.

On August 19, 1980 Cuendet succeeded Daniel Gagnebin as ambassador to Egypt and held this post until July 3, 1984, after which he was replaced by Luciano Mordasini . Most recently, he replaced Peter Erni as ambassador to India on October 1, 1984 , and held this office until his death in 1988. His successor there was Jean-Pierre Zehnder on June 14, 1989 .
