Torpedo Alley (Atlantic)

As Torpedo Alley (German: Torpedo-Allee), or also Torpedo Junction (German: Torpedo-Kreuzung) was designated by the Allies during the Second World War, a sea area off the coast of the US state North Carolina . Torpedo Alley covered the area around the Outer Banks , including Cape Lookout and Cape Hatteras . In this area there were a high number of German submarine attacks on Allied shipping. Almost 400 ships were sunk in this area. Around 5000 people were killed. The area is now considered the largest ship cemetery in the Atlantic .
