The term Torre describes differently designed buildings from the Bronze Age in Corsica , which were built by the Torre culture . The central structure in a torre is an often beehive - like one-room tholos .

Torren was often integrated into natural rock formations. Characteristic are wide entrances with a lintel into a tholos with (as with nuraghi usually three) side niches. In Torren, grain was ground and food processed, there were sections where grain was found in clay jugs. Due to the remains of ashes found in the niches of the central building, Roger Grosjean assumes a primarily ritual function of the torren in the places Torre and Ceccia , which are said to be early torren, and excludes a fortificative function. The complex, which has certain echoes of the nuraghi of the nuragic culture on the neighboring island of Sardinia, was surrounded by outbuildings and statue memorials (especially in Filitosa). The walls (except for the Torre von Torre and the Torre von Ceccia ), separated the Torre from the environment in the manner of a peribolos . The best preserved of the torrents concentrated in the southern part of Corsica are in Alo-Bisucce , Arraggiu (also d´Araghiu), Capula , Cucuruzzu , Filitosa and Torre von Torre near the town of Torre.
