Torsion test

Loading of the specimen clamped on one side by a torsional moment

The torsion test is a method used in materials testing .

This experiment is used to test materials for e.g. B. shafts , tubes or wire as well as to assess the toughness behavior of tool steels . If a rod-shaped sample is clamped at one end and a couple of forces act on the other end in a plane perpendicular to the rod axis, a torsional moment is created . The twisting leads to a displacement that increases with the distance from the clamping point, the lines parallel to the rod axis merging into helical lines.
