Mater Dolorosa (Dusseldorf)
The Catholic parish church Mater Dolorosa or Mother in Sorrows in Düsseldorf-Flehe has two completely different architectural styles due to the history of its origins.
history
Flehe was initially a rectorate of the parish of Bilk from 1906 , only became an independent parish in 1911. A church building association had existed since 1889.
The foundation stone for the Fleher Church was laid in July 1905. The church was to be built with three aisles in neo-Gothic style according to plans by Caspar Clemens Pickel . The church is made of red brick . In 1943 the church was severely damaged by the bombing.
The reconstruction took place from 1949 to 1951. In the transept only a flat wooden ceiling was now used. In 1960 an architectural competition was held to complete the church. This was won by Emil Steffann .
A three-aisled nave in the early Romanesque style , inspired by early Christian basilicas, has now been added to the neo-Gothic transept . The windows are small, simple arched windows . The red brick construction was retained. The consecration took place in 1964.
organ
The organ was built in 1968 by the organ builder Romanus Seifert & Sohn (Kevelaer). The slider chests -instrument has 22 registers on two manuals and pedal . The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
