Torsten Engelage

Torsten Engelage (born January 4, 1981 in Vienna ) was chairman of the Austrian Socialist Youth Association from November 2006 until his resignation in October 2007 .

Engelage grew up in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria . He became politically active for the first time in 1998 in the Lower Austrian regional organization of the Critical Schoolchildren Campaign . Engelage was the state chairman of this organization until 2000. From 2001 to 2004 Engelage held the office of Secretary of the Association of Socialist Youth Austria. He was also vice-president of the European Young Socialists from 2003 to 2005 .

On November 4, 2006, Engelage was elected as the successor to Ludwig Dvorak as chairman of the Austrian Socialist Youth Association. Engelage affirmed in his election that he wanted to continue the political line of his predecessors Andreas Kollross and Ludwig Dvorak. On October 15, 2007, Engelage's premature resignation as chairman of the Socialist Youth Austria surprisingly became known. Private reasons were given for this step. Engelage's successor was Wolfgang Moitzi . During Engelages tenure was u. a. a campaign for the formation of a Social Democratic Party - minority government after the 2006 national elections and protests against the sworn in in January 2007 SPÖ ÖVP fallen -Regierung. An announced youth referendum could not be turned into reality.

From 2007 to 2008 he was also chairman of the Austrian Federal Youth Council .
