Torvikbukt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Torvikbukt is a village in the Norwegian municipality of Gjemnes in the province of Møre og Romsdal and is located on the west coast of Norway. The village has 300 to 500 inhabitants. The Sunndalsfjord and the 994 meter high mountain Reinsfjellet are in the vicinity of the village.

Industry

The largest and most important company is Gjøco AS (GmbH). Gjøco is a paint manufacturer and has the second largest market share in the Norwegian market for interior painting products. Gjøco's total sales in 2004 were approximately 150 million Norwegian kroner (25 million US dollars).

The agricultural industry is also an important branch of the economy. Torvikbukt has many small and medium-sized farms, but recently many farms were discontinued because there were no successors and agriculture in the area is unprofitable.

tourism

Torvikbukt's surroundings with fjords and mountains make it a good starting point for mountain hikes and boat tours and also a suitable place for fishing. Vacation homes have therefore become another source of income.

education

Torvikbukt has a primary school that teaches from 1st to 7th grade. The school has around 40 students. Until recently it was planned to close the school because the funds could no longer be provided by the municipality of Gjemnes. However, this has so far been prevented because the municipal council had voted against a closure.
