history

In the Middle Ages, there was a tower house called Torwoodlee Tower on the site . George Pringle had a new defense tower of the same name built there in 1601. After Torwoodlee House initially had an elongated floor plan, flanking pavilions and a Victorian canopy were added later. In the course of the 19th century the north side was expanded.

description

The mansion is located on a spacious property on the north-western edge of Galashiels about 200 m from the right bank of Gala Water . The masonry of the symmetrically constructed, Georgian designed Torwoodlee House consists of rubble stone with red natural stone details. Built into the slope, the basement of the two-story mansion emerges on the south side.
