Toshihiro Hasegawa ( Japanese 長谷川 敏 裕 Hasegawa Toshihiro ; born August 24, 1996 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese wrestler . He became U23 world champion in 2018.

Career

Toshihiro Hasegawa started wrestling when he was still a schoolboy. He wrestles exclusively in free style. After attending the Jiyūgaoka Gakuen High School in Tokyo, he became a student at the Japanese Sport University (Nippon Sports Science University NSSU) in Tokyo.

His international wrestling career began in August 2013 when he won a bronze medal in the "Cadets" age group in Zrenjanin in the weight class up to 50 kg. At the Asian Junior Championship 2014 (age group "Juniors") in Ulaan-Baatar and at the Junior World Championship 2015 (Juniors) in Salvador da Bahia, he only came 11th in the weight class up to 55 kg.

In 2016 and 2017 Toshihiro Hasegawa was the Japanese runner-up in the weight class up to 57 kg. In the finals he was defeated by Yūki Takahashi , the 2017 world champion.

In February 2018 he was used at the Asian Championships in Bishkek in the weight class up to 57 kg. He won there over Hikmatulloh Wohidow, Tajikistan, lost in the semifinals to Kang Kumsong, North Korea and then secured a bronze medal with a victory over Song Hyeonsik, South Korea.

In November 2018 he achieved the greatest success of his career so far at the U23 World Cup in Bucharest. With victories over Alireza Nosratolah Sarlak, Iran, Jack Michael Müller, USA, Zou Wanhao, China and Ravi Kumar, India, he became world champion in this age group in the weight class up to 57 kg.
