1992-2006: Solo

Toshi 2005

Toshi began his solo career in 1992. On February 17, 1997, Toshi married the actress Kaori "Wanku" Moritani, who also works as a singer and model. In June of that year he first saw a concert by Toru “Masaya” Kurabuchi, a musician and chairman of Home of Heart , an organization believed to be a new religious sect . Masaya's healing music impressed Toshi very much and it was speculated for a long time that the friendship with Masaya and the influence of Home of Heart made him decide to leave Japan. Toshi said that he had already made the decision to leave X Japan in April 1996 because the for-profit life as a rock star had not been able to satisfy him emotionally and he had wished for a simpler life. The press conference took place on September 22, 1997.

In 1998, Toshi decided to donate all of his fortune to a charity owned by Masaya. However, Toshi's older brother, who was in charge of its finances, claimed that Toshi had been brainwashed and the case went to court.

After X Japan, Toshi devoted himself to the healing music written by Masaya. He traveled through Japan and other Asian countries and gave acoustic concerts for small audiences under the name KK Home of Heart ( 株式会社 ホ ー ム オ ブ ハ ー ト ). According to the website, he gave over 3000 shows. From 1994 to 2004 Toshi released 33 albums and singles.

In 2004, when the Lemuria organization , which also belongs to Masaya and operates Healing Music , was sued for child abuse, Toshi appeared on the stand. After the verdict was pronounced, Toshi decided to take a break and did not publish any new material until 2008.

2007 – today: restart

Toshi with T-Earth in Brazil

On October 22, 2007, X Japan announced their reunification and sealed it with the release of the new single IV , the theme song of the film Saw IV . With the resumption of his activity as a singer with X Japan, Toshi also started his solo career again. On June 11th, 2008 the founding of his new band Toshi with T-Earth was announced. The band consisted of Toshi and Phantasmagorias guitarist Jun as well as guitarist Touya and bassist Ruka from the band Charlotte . Levin from La'cryma Christi and Shinya from Luna Sea alternated as drummers . The band's first album, Earth Spirit , was released on August 8th. Toshi with T-Earth called their music eco hard rock , because their motivation is to draw attention to environmental problems. In October of the same year T-Earth gave two concerts in Chile and Brazil . Her second album Haruka Naru Toki o Koete ( 遙 か な る 時 を こ え て ) was released on November 26th.

In April 2009 it was announced that 13-year-old drummer Riku would join the band and that anyone who wanted to save the earth could apply. In July guitarist Ryo and bassist Kain officially joined the band. On August 13, 2009, the band's second album, Hontō no Ai ( 本 当 の 愛 ), was released along with the English version Truth .

On January 18, 2010, Toshi brought charges against his KK Home of Heart label. He accused her of claiming all of his 12 year concert and record proceeds, which is why he had to file for bankruptcy. Toshi separated from the company as well as from Masaya and the sect. In February he divorced his wife Kaori Moritani, who is also with "Home of Heart, Ltd." was under contract. He stated that he and Kaori were practically never husband and wife and that he knew nothing about them or their lives apart from casual meetings at work. Toshi also stated that she had lived with Masaya for the past 10 years.

On February 8, 2010 his new homepage went online, on which he announced the release of a final mini-album, Samurai Japan , on February 24. Since then he has written ToshI with a capital I , since the rights to his stage name are still with Home of Heart. This time the songs were written exclusively by Toshi himself, with Pata and Sugizo from X Japan assisting him with the recording . His last solo concert was on February 24th, with X Japan members playing the instruments as guest musicians. Since then Toshi has concentrated on his activities with X Japan, u. a. the USA tour 2010 and performances in Europe and the USA in 2011.

On November 22nd, 2010 a new project was announced: ToshI feat. Yoshiki . The shows on January 24th and 25th, 2011 were gourmet dinner shows in which the guests were served French cuisine and enjoyed a piano duet by ToshI and Yoshiki (X Japan).

Due to the earthquake on March 11, 2011 in the Tōhoku region , Toshi played eight concerts in western Japan. Due to the lack of electricity, Toshi was supported by unplugged concerts by X Japans Heath and Luna Seas Shinya and the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa . The entire proceeds were donated to the Japanese Red Cross .

On June 22, 2011 Toshi released the two new singles Hoshizora no Neptune ( 星空 の ネ プ チ ュ ー ン ) and Haru no Negai ( 星 春 の 願 い ) in digital format.

music

At the beginning of Toshi's solo career in 1992, his music consisted mainly of rock music with many ballads. After joining Home of Heart, Ltd. had changed, he published almost only acoustic pieces. Since 1998 the leader of Home of Heart , Masaya, wrote all the songs they called "healing music". With Toshi with T-Earth Toshi created so-called “eco hard rock” since 2008, again all songs were written by Masaya. In 2010 ToshI released a self-written song for the first time, Samurai Japan .
