The totalita.cz portal deals with the history of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia from 1945 to 1989.

History and mission of the portal

"We do not want the younger generation to succumb to communist propaganda of the present and, as a result, illusions about life before 1989" says one of the portal's founders, Tomáš Vlček, about the goals and self-imposed task. The focus is on complexes such as the emergence of totalitarianism in Czechoslovakia (1945 to 1948), the takeover of power by the CPC , nationalization of industry and collectivization of agriculture, political processes in the 1950s (and later), normalization after the Prague Spring, etc. a. The contributions in the form of well-founded encyclopedic articles are complemented by documents, laws and images. In addition to a person and subject index, there is also a calendar overview of the entire epoch. Anyone looking for information about the victims of communism can find it here. The server is very widely used not only by students, but also by various media that grapple with the history of the country.

Totalita.cz works with several institutes and organizations that also deal with the communist past: Ústav pro studium totalitních režimů (ÚSTR), Paměť národa Internet portal , Post Bellum Association and others.

The portal was founded on November 17th, 1999.
