Totus Tuus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Totus Tuus community was founded in 1997 from members of prayer groups that arose through pilgrimages to Međugorje and has been recognized as a so-called new spiritual community in some dioceses of the Catholic Church since 2004 . Since 2017, the diocese of Münster has been investigating the community as part of an episcopal visitation, as former members of the community accuse sect-like structures and spiritual abuse. A final report of the visit is expected in 2020.

Self-image

The self-appointed task of the community is the new evangelization . The focus of evangelism work is the organization of pilgrimages to Medjugorje, parish dissemination and confirmation work as well as youth work.

The community organizes several trips to the Herzegovinian pilgrimage site of Medjugorje every year. Since 1981 some people (so-called seers ) the mother of God Mary has been supposed to appear there to call all people in the world to prayer, faith and peace.

The community participates in communities upon invitation. Specifically, confirmation classes and weekends, so-called congregational missions, and prayer evenings or meetings are offered.

Several meetings are held monthly for young people on weekends. There are also children's camps for girls and boys.

Shaped by a Marian and charismatic spirituality, they say they want to answer the needs of our time. Totus tuus translates as “completely yours”. Just like the motto of Pope John Paul II, the name of the community refers to Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort. He taught a spirituality of complete devotion to Jesus through Mary . How this dedication is concretized remains unclear. Dropouts and the former spiritual advisory board of the community criticize the demand for “blind obedience” and the impairment of free development.

The Totus Tuus community is a member of several diocesan forums of spiritual communities.

In 2018 the community supported the Mission Manifesto .
