The Tour du Vaucluse 1980 cycling race took place from April 9th to April 13th of that year. It comprised a prologue and six stages. The drivers covered a total of 609.6 km.
The first leg of the tour is 73 km around Isle. Six drivers - four French ( Michel Laurent , Patrice Thévenard, Jean-François Rodriguez and Julien), Robert Millar , the Scotsman who drives for Peugeot and Bernd Drogan from the GDR - were 59 seconds ahead of the peloton. The later overall winner Michel Laurent secured the stage win.
The fourth stage led over 165 km from Sorgues to Avignon . The 1,900 m high and still snow-covered Mont Ventoux had to be conquered. Initially, a top seven group of six French and Bernd Drogan formed . On the ascent to the Suzetta Pass, Drogan fell back and joined a group of ten people in pursuit. This group was three minutes behind on Mont Ventoux and was able to reduce this to 1:20 minutes by the end of the stage. Bernard Bourreau secured the stage win in a sprint ahead of Michel Laurent and Robert Millar .
6th stage: Bollène - Avignon (individual time trial), 22 km
For the final time trial from Bollène to Avignon , 42 of the 70 drivers originally started on this tour. This stage was held after the fifth stage. Bernd Drogan won ahead of Ladislav Ferebauer and the reigning runner-up time trial world champion Jan Jankiewicz .
The French professional team Peugeot-Esso-Michelin secured the team standings ahead of the professional team Puch-Sem-Campagnolo. Third place went to the GDR.
