The Tower of Terror (German: "Tower of Terror") in the Gold Reef City theme park in the south of Johannesburg ( South Africa ) is a steel roller coaster that opened in December 2001. It was closed from 2005 to 2007 due to renovation work. The roller coaster was designed by Ronald Bussink and manufactured by local companies.
The tower of the railway is a former winding tower of a gold mine about five kilometers away. The vertical lift pulls the car to a height of 34 m. The 50 m high descent leads 15 m below the surface. The car reaches a top speed of 95 km / h and centrifugal forces of 6.3 g act on the passengers. The Tower of Terror has individual cars. Eight people (two rows of four) can be seated in each car.
In the period from 2005 to April 2007, the lift was closed and the 45 ° lift hill was replaced with a vertical lift and new trains were procured.
