Gold Reef City
Gold Reef City is an amusement park in Johannesburg , South Africa that was built in the 1980s on the surface area of Crown Mines in the Central Rand area , one of the largest and deepest gold mines in the world. It is located about eight kilometers south-west of the city center, directly on National Road 1 . The amusement complex is owned by Tsogo Sun Holdings Ltd. and is under government supervision by the Gauteng Gambling Board .

The idea for the amusement and theme park originally arose from the tours in the mining area, in which around 1.4 million kilograms of gold were mined between 1894 and 1982 , as well as in the workshops and other facilities. Over time, a theme park was created that depicts the gold rush atmosphere on the Witwatersrand at the turn of the last century. The employees, for example, are dressed in costumes from that time, the buildings and a fair are based on the style of the time around 1890.
In addition to attractions such as white water rides and roller coasters, such as the Tower of Terror , you can enter the underground facilities about 200 meters deep. In the gold digger museum, visitors can watch gold bars being poured.
