Toyota Motor Manufacturing France SAS ( TMMF for short ) is an automobile manufacturer with headquarters in the French town of Onnaing in the Nord department . The company is a subsidiary of Toyota .

history

The company was founded in October 1998. At the same time, the foundation stone for the new plant was laid.

Production began on January 31, 2001. The location was officially opened in June 2001. In July 2001, the two-shift operation began. A three-shift operation was introduced several times from May 2004 (initially in trial operation).

In December 2006, the one millionth Toyota was manufactured in France. Three million vehicles were produced by 2016.

With 2000 employees, the factory was originally designed for 150,000 vehicles per year. This capacity had been expanded to 270,000 vehicles and 3,268 employees by 2011. In 2007, a production record was set with 262,000 pieces.

In 2011 TMMF had 3268 employees. A total of 920 million euros had been invested by 2011. The most important markets for TMMF are Italy , Germany , France, Great Britain and Spain as well as another 31 European countries.

Models

TMMF has so far only produced the Toyota Yaris in different generations. It started with the 1.0-liter model. The 1.3-liter model was added in May 2002.

The petrol engine has been manufactured since April 2002, and the diesel engine since January 2003. Engine production was stopped in 2008.

In November 2005 the second generation of the Yaris started at TMMF.

Production of the hybrid version began in April 2012. At the time, TMMF was the first manufacturer in France and Europe to produce a B-segment hybrid vehicle . From 2012 to 2016, the share of hybrid vehicles in production rose from 25 to almost 35%.

TMMF has been producing the Yaris for the USA , Canada and Puerto Rico since 2013 .

The Yaris Verso and the Daihatsu Charade (identical to the Yaris) were also produced. According to another source, these Charade models were made in Thailand.
