Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. ( TMMK ) is an automobile and engine manufacturer based in Georgetown , Kentucky . It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota .
history
The company was founded in January 1986 under the name Toyota Motor Manufacturing USA, Inc. ( TMM ). Production began in May 1988. In October 1996 the name was changed to TMMK, at the same time TMMNA was founded. The Kentucky plant is now the Toyota Group's largest vehicle factory.
The plant had a theoretical production capacity of 550,000 vehicles and more than 600,000 engines at the beginning of 2018.
Models
The first model produced was the Toyota Camry . Production of the Toyota Avalon began in September 1994 . The Toyota Sienna was assembled here from August 1997 to December 2002 (production then continued at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana ).
Production of the Toyota Solara began in July 2003 . As a further model variant, the Toyota Camry in the hybrid version was added in October 2006. The Toyota Venza (successor to the Solara) has been manufactured since November 2008 . Another model from TMMK is the Lexus ES 350 .
The L4 engine has been manufactured here since December 1989, and V6 engines since September 1994.
