Toyotomi Kunimatsu ( Japanese 豊 臣 国 松 ; * 1608 ; † June 19, 1615 in Kyoto ) was the last head of the Japanese Toyotomi clan .

Life

Toyotomi Kunimatsu was the son of Toyotomi Hideyori and his wife. He was related to the Tokugawa clan through his mother .

After his father successfully repulsed the attacks by Tokugawa Ieyasu on Osaka Castle in the winter of 1614 , he and his family were captured when the castle was stormed the following year. His father committed seppuku on June 5th , as did his grandmother. His half-sister and mother were banished as nuns in monasteries. Toyotomi Kunimatsu was abducted by the Shogun to the imperial capital Kyoto and beheaded there 14 days after his father's suicide.

With his death, the male line of the Toyotomis and the last possibility of opposition to the Tokugawa shogunate died .
