Toyotomi (clan)
The Toyotomi ( Jap. Modern : 豊臣氏 / traditional : 豐臣氏 , Toyotomi uji or Toyotomi-shi ) were a Japanese family unadliger origin and a short life, but during -Momoyama period Azuchi on the history of Japan a had a great impact.
The clan was officially founded in 1586 when Hashiba Hideyoshi received the family name Toyotomi from the Tennō , as he had become one of the most loyal generals of Oda Nobunagas , although he came from a samurai family of peasant origin. Hideyoshi had tried to get the title Shogun , but this was denied to him because of his low origin. Instead, he was given the office of Kampaku , the imperial regent, in 1585 . In 1591 he resigned in favor of his nephew Miyoshi Nobuyoshis who, while following the rise of his uncle, changed his name to Hashiba Hidetsugu and then to Toyotomi Hidetsugu .
The clan lost its power in 1615 when Toyotomi Hideyori , Hideyoshi's son and heir , died during the siege of Osaka .
