Carrier steam distillation

The carrier distillation is like the vacuum distillation to distill a method of chemical engineering, liquids friendly. In carrier steam distillation, the addition of the vapor pressures of immiscible liquids is used. The addition of the vapor pressures leads to a reduction in the boiling point. As a result, a lower-boiling auxiliary component can be added to the liquid to be gently distilled in order to then boil it at a significantly lower temperature. The molar ratio of the two components in the vapor phase and thus also in the condensate is proportional to the vapor pressures of the individual components at the boiling point. The condensate then consists of two phases, which can easily be separated.

The best-known carrier steam distillation is steam distillation . With steam distillation, no extra heating of the distillation flask is usually required, as the enormous specific heat and the even higher heat of evaporation of the water quickly heats the liquid to be distilled.
