Carrier road

The Rostock beam mill is a short street in the historic center of the Hanseatic city . It connects the Koßfelder with the Große Mönchenstraße in a west-east direction . To the north, the extremely narrow and short wine route branches off to Strandstrasse . It is part of the former Rostock Mittelstadt .

The carrier street is one of the (today) eight cross streets that connect the much more important streets leading to the bank of the Unterwarnow . It was first mentioned under its name in 1492, as street names were no longer Latinized at the time . The carrier street, which was located near the historic city port, was named after the (in Hanseatic times) rather highly respected profession of porters , i.e. the loading and unloading of ships at the port that had their domicile in the street. The carrier street was mainly lined with rear buildings and stalls, which were completely destroyed in the great city fire of 1677. The carrier street was rebuilt in baroque style . During the air raids by the Royal Air Force at the end of April 1942, the south side of the carrier road was completely destroyed, while villa-like buildings from the early 20th century have been preserved on the north - west side .
