Tracy Chamoun

Tracy Chamoun (* 1962 ) is a writer and political activist from Lebanon .

She is one of two surviving children of Dany Chamouns (1934-1990), the former leader of the National Liberal Party and commander of the Tiger militia , which played a major role in the Lebanese civil war , and the granddaughter of former President Camille Chamoun .

Her father's legacy

By founding the Dany Chamoun Foundation, Tracy Chamoun sought to fulfill the legacy of her father, who was assassinated in 1990 with his second wife and two young sons . She is anxious to bring her father's murderers to justice and has led trials in Lebanon as well as in other countries. In 1994 Samir Geagea was sentenced to life imprisonment. In July 2005, however, he was released from prison due to an amnesty.

Autobiography

Chamoun has written an autobiography entitled Au Nom du Père that focuses on her relationship with her father and on his life and work. In it she also describes the experience she had with her mother in 1980, when the two were kidnapped during a surprise attack on the headquarters of the National Liberal Party by the Phalange militia under the command of Bachir Gemayel , a former ally of her father were.

Chamoun is critical of President Émile Lahoud's pro- Syrian government . She called the independence of her country a " myth ".
