Trainspotting Live

Trainspotting Live was a largely live broadcast television program on the BBC Four thatairedJuly 11-13, 2016.

concept

The concept was similar to previous BBC live broadcasts such as Airport Live and Volcano Live . The show was presented by Peter Snow , Hannah Fry , Dick Strawbridge and Tim Dunn from the Didcot Railway Center in Didcot . Trainspotting Live also showed pre-recorded reports and interviews. The live cameras showed rail traffic on the nearby Great Western Main Line . During the broadcast, viewers were asked to submit recently recorded videos of trains and were given the task of documenting the sighting of a special locomotive and an unusual train nicknamed "The Holy Grail of the Rail" as a so-called trainspotter sift through.

Criticism and controversy

In the first episode, Peter Snow accidentally said that a five month old video from a Class 66 was broadcast live when it was delivered. This led to complaints from train spotters and the faux pas was featured on the cover of The Sun magazine . A spokesman for the BBC said the show made a mistake in the excitement of a live broadcast (that "the show had made a mistake in the 'excitement of a live broadcast'").
