The TransNamib Railway Museum is the central transport museum in Namibia . It is located in the entrance building of Windhoek station . The focus of the collection is the history of rail transport in German South West Africa , South West Africa and Namibia.

The museum was established in 1988, but officially opened in 1993. The reason for the establishment was the handover of the railway in South West Africa by the government of South Africa to the government of South West Africa. Until then there was no systematic collection related to the South West African railroad. If necessary, corresponding pieces were included in collections in South Africa.

However, the technical changes at the railway in the following years made numerous pieces of equipment superfluous, so that they could be included in the museum's collection. Therefore, their focus is on equipment from train stations and railway administration. A few vehicles are shown on the forecourt of Windhoek.

Since the TransNamib , which carries the museum, also operates other types of public transport in Namibia, there are also individual exhibition rooms on ports and air transport in the museum .
