Transport chain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transport chain (also known as the transport chain ) describes the technical and organizational link between transport and transport processes. Transport chains are used in particular for combined transport (broken traffic). The basic structure of a transport chain is formed by the system access , the change of location in connection with intermediate processes and the system exit .

example

A classic transport chain for combined transport is composed as follows:

  • Transport of the goods by truck to the transshipment terminal ( lead time )
  • Transshipment in the source terminal ( loading onto another means of transport)
  • Transport by rail, sea or inland waterway to the destination terminal ( main run )
  • Transhipment in the destination terminal
  • Transport by truck to the recipient (on- carriage )

A string of different modes of transport in the main run is also conceivable, for example from the source terminal by sea ship to an intermediate terminal , then by rail to the destination terminal.
