Advance (freight traffic)

Pre-carriage, main carriage and post carriage

The flow ( English forerun ) is in road transport a part of the transport and supply , of the transport of goods to be transported by shipping freight forwarders from the sender ( Seller accepts) to the main transport medium.

General

A supply chain consists of at least two modes of transport that make up combined transport . Especially when sending groupage or general cargo , the shipping agent transports the cargo to the train station , airport or port ( inland port or seaport ), where it is loaded onto the main means of transport. This carries out the main run . For example, unaccompanied combined transport is carried out in a process chain consisting of a pre-carriage on the road, the main carriage on the rail and on-carriage on the road.

organization

The shipping agent creates the shipping card that is sent as accompanying paper with the freight. It transports the cargo in advance to the transshipment point for the main means of transport ( freight train , cargo plane or cargo ship ) that carries out the main leg. After the main run, there is usually the follow-up run , which is handled by the receiving freight forwarder. This is responsible for the delivery , whereby a notification is possible before delivery , especially for large customers . The transport costs for pre- and post-carriage are referred to as cartage . In March 1932, Schenker AG received the exclusive right to organize road freight transport in the pre- and post-carriage of rail transport.
