The Trappist Abbey of Mississippi has been an American monastery in Dubuque (Iowa) , Archdiocese of Dubuque , since 1964 .
history
The Trappist Abbey of Wrentham , the first Cistercian abbey in the United States , founded Our Lady of the Mississippi Monastery in 1964 as its first daughter monastery (in the south of Dubuque and not far from New Melleray Abbey ) , which was elevated to an abbey in 1970 .
