The Trappist Abbey of Redwoods has been an American monastery since 1962 in Whitethorn, Humboldt County (California) , Diocese of Santa Rosa in California .

history

The Belgian Trappist Abbey of Nazareth founded the Our Lady of the Redwoods Abbey in 1962 in northern California in the deserted forest of the Lost Coast (40 minutes by car from Garberville ) , which was elevated to an abbey in 1964 . The founding group under Superior Myriam Dardenne (1920–2002) was financially supported by the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle , as well as energetically from the Californian Trappist Abbey of New Clairvaux . Her spiritual advisor was the Trappist and author Roger De Ganck (1908–2000).
