Trappist Abbey of Nazareth
The Trappist Abbey of Nazareth (also: Abtei Brecht ) has been a Belgian monastery in Brecht , diocese of Antwerp , since 1950 .
history
From 1236 to 1797 in lived Lier (Belgium) , the Cistercian Monastery Abdij Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Nazareth , whose most famous nun mystic Beatrice of Nazareth was († 1268). After the Second World War , the Trappist Abbey Westmalle took the initiative to rebuild the nunnery, but not in Lier, but in Brecht in the immediate vicinity of Westmalle. From 1945 the monks erected buildings that were settled in 1950 by the Trappist Abbey of Soleilmont with 13 nuns ( raised to an abbey in 1951 ). The development of the monastery went so well that it was able to establish subsidiary monasteries in 1962 and 1970.
