The beginnings of the Soleilmont nunnery ("Sonneberg") go back to the 12th century. In 1237 it was incorporated into the Cistercian Order and placed under the supervision of the Aulne Cistercian Abbey . In 1246 the Moulins Monastery near Namur (Peugniez p. 406) was founded from here (dissolved in 1414). From 1797 to 1802 the nuns lived in exile in Farciennes . From 1805 the monastery was run as a priory . In 1922 it joined the Trappist Order and was elevated to an abbey in 1927 . In 1963 the old monastery burned down and had to be rebuilt in the vicinity of the ruins (inaugurated in 1973).
