The Belgian Trappist Abbey of Soleilmont founded the Ananda Matha Ashram (Mother of Joy) monastery in Makkiyad in Kerala in 1995 , which moved to Kunnambetta in 2009. Founding bishop was Maxwell Valentine Noronha , Bishop of Calicut .
