The Diocese of Calicut ( Latin Dioecesis Calicutensis , English Diocese of Calicut ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in India . It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Verapoly .
history
The diocese of Calicut was established on June 12, 1923 from areas of the dioceses of Coimbatore , Mangalore and Mysore . The first bishop was the Jesuit Paolo Charles Perini . On December 31, 1953, it ceded areas to the newly established Tellicherry ( Syro-Malabar ) eparchy . The next assignments of territory took place in November 1998, when the diocese of Kannur was established, and on December 28, 2013 to establish the diocese of Sultanpet .
