The weeping titmouse ( Poecile lugubris , syn .: Parus lugubris ; from Latin lugubris 'mourning') is a songbird species from the titmouse family (Paridae).

description

It is similar to the willow tit , but with a length of 13 to 14 centimeters is considerably larger and darker on the sides. Their beak is relatively strong for a titmouse. The male is sooty, brownish-black on the vertex and neck, the female is more chocolate-brown.

The rest of the upper side is gray-brown in color, the face and sides of the neck are whitish, the underside is matt whitish with greyish-brown flanks and a large black throat spot.

Their call is a distinctive "sirrah". The lure is a blue tit-like "si-si-si" and a sparrow-like "kerrr'r'r'r". She also expresses a rather deep, great tit- like moaning "tchetchetche ..."

The song is a quick, simple sequence of tones and sounds similar to that of the swamp tit , but rougher, e.g. B. "tchriw-tchriw-tchriw ..."

The weeping tit prefers plains and low mountain ranges with mixed forests and rocks . It builds its nest in tree hollows and occasionally between rocks. Their behavior is similar to that of the other tits. In winter they rarely join together to form mixed groups.

distribution

It lives as an annual bird in all of Southeast Europe and also comes to Italy by roaming around . In the east their distribution area extends to Persia .
