Eaves plank

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An eaves plank is the lowest batten (in the area of the eaves ) and part of the roof battens .

The roof battens carry the roof covering , usually roof tiles , pans, shingles , etc. .. The first row of the roofing is simply placed on the lowest roof batten, the eaves plank. Eaves planks are larger in cross-section than normal roof battens and often have a trapezoidal instead of rectangular cross-section. As a result, the top of the eaves plank follows the slope of the roofing and thus causes a uniform roof slope of all rows of roofing on the roof surface.

If required, an eaves plank can also consist of several individual cross-sections nailed on top of one another. In the traditionally designed inclined pan roofs, the eaves board also serves as a support for the eaves sheet (gutter attachment , drip tray) and the gutter hooks (gutter iron).

If required, the eaves plank can also be used as a load-bearing component to stiffen the roof area and must then be dimensioned accordingly.
