The Traunsteinhaus is an alpine refuge of nature lovers on the Traunstein in the Upper Austrian Pre-Alps .
history
The Traunsteinhaus, also known as the Naturfreundehütte , is located on the Traunkirchner Kogel. It was built from 1925 and was officially opened on August 14, 1927 in the presence of around 900 mountaineers by the later Federal President Theodor Körner . After the friends of nature were dissolved in 1934, the hut was transferred to the Bergfreunde and in 1938 to the German Youth Hostel Association . After the war, the Traunsteinhaus was returned to the Friends of Nature.
In 1963 the first transport was carried out by helicopter, in 1966 a lightning protection system was installed, in 1985 the first radio telephone was put into operation, in 1991 a solar system was built and in 1995 a biological sewage treatment system.
After the commercial authority requirements for the construction of sanitary facilities were issued in 1974, an extension to the west with sanitary rooms, guest room and bedrooms followed in 1975. From February 2013 to May 2014 the next renovation and significant expansion of the hut took place. This was carried out according to plans by the Steyr architects Schmid + Leitner and cost around 1.2 million euros.
