The Gmundner Hütte is a Category I refuge in the Gmunden section of the Austrian Alpine Club on Traunstein in the Upper Austrian Prealps .
history
The Gmundner Hütte stands on the Fahnenkogel and was built in 1907 by the Gmundner Tourist Club. The grand opening of the 8 by 5 meter refuge took place on October 6th, 1907 with 112 guests who climbed up despite the rainy weather. Until 1913 it was not allowed to be equipped with a door or an oven in order not to offer shelter to poachers . In 1921 the hut was first enlarged by adding a bedroom for 30 people. The next enlargement took place in 1971, when a large dining room, an additional mattress store and a separate bedroom for the innkeeper were built in prefabricated construction. For the 100th anniversary in 2007, the hut was completely renovated and expanded again by building a two-storey extension on the east side.
building
The Gmundner Hütte offers beds for around 45 people. Since 1954 the hut has been looked after by the Gmunden Alpine Club Section .
