Travewerft Ebschner & Gabler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Travewerft was founded in 1949 in Lübeck on the Teerhofinsel in Lübeck. Ulrich Gabler and Fritz Ebschner were the founders, they had worked together on the development of submarines before the Second World War .

The shipyard emerged from a boatyard. Starting in 1950, fishing trawlers of 20 to 50 GRT were initially built, followed by inland vessels , tugboats and small coastal freighters. Small passenger ships (150 GRT) were built for Swedish shipowners in 1953 . In 1954 a 650 GRT cattle transporter was built and from 1955 mainly cargo ships with 499 GRT to 2,300 GRT.

In 1953, the Hansen-Eisen company, a subsidiary of the Flick Group at that time, took over the shipyard due to a settlement procedure, and from then on it operated under the name Travewerft GmbH. In 1958 the shipyard was closed and the site was handed over to Rudolf Harmstorf, who worked in hydraulic engineering. In 1959 the company was called Wasserbau- und Travewerft Rudolf Harmstorf GmbH. This company was closed at the beginning of the 1970s, the last few years before the closure the company served as a scrap yard. The Kufra shipyard now uses part of the site.

Gabler and his former director Fritz Ebschner founded the engineering office Lübeck (IKL) .
