Tree Map
Visualization of a directory tree with the help of a tree map in TreeSize , a program from JAM Software.
A treemapping ( English for tree map ) or a tile diagram of visualization of hierarchical structures, which are in this case represented by nested rectangles used. In this way, size relationships can be clearly displayed by choosing the area of the rectangles proportional to the size of the data unit to be displayed.
history
This form of visualization was invented in the early 1990s by Ben Shneiderman , a professor at the University of Maryland . Because of the lack of space on his server's hard drives, he was looking for a way to display the biggest waste of space in an intuitive and clear way.
