As a stairwell at a designated one staircase the light opening or the airspace of staircases and paragraphs is formed and enclosed. In stairwells , a continuous room is often formed over several floors .

Colloquially, the stairwell is also called a stairhole , but this is the name for a ceiling opening in the shell state, which is used to accommodate a staircase.
