Stairs beetles are works of art in the public space of the city Nordhausen in the form of bronze - dwarfs , which were installed mainly due to the numerous stairs of the city. There are currently 21 staircase beetles in Nordhausen. It is about 10 to 40 cm tall bronze figures of very different shapes. The stair beetles are based on an idea by two employees of the JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen e. V. from 2008. In 2009 the first staircase beetles created by the citizens of Nordhausen emerged.

Jacob

The inspiration for the idea were dwarfs in Poland . Two employees of the JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen, Ines Gast and Rüdiger Neitzke, discovered these dwarfs on a business trip in Wroclaw . This gave them the idea of doing something similar in Nordhausen, especially to draw attention to the many stairs in the city. In the summer of 2008 they developed the Beetle idea, which the managing director of the JugendSozialwerk campaigned for.

Drama

The city administration and now many other partners were also convinced by this idea. In the spring of 2009, the first pottery workshops started to shape models . In autumn 2009 the first five stair beetles had their place on the pedestals .

Nordhausen is a city of stairs. There are 260 stairs and 2530 steps in Nordhausen. The stair beetles as works of art in public space accentuate the stairs more concretely and thus come into a more individual focus. The stairs should become points of attraction and strengthen Nordhausen's perception as a family-friendly and history-conscious city.
