The Treskow plane tree is a maple-leaved plane tree in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde , Lichtenberg district , which is listed as a Berlin natural monument for cultural reasons .

description

It is 25 meters high and has a crown diameter of 20 meters. Its trunk circumference at a height of 1.30 meters is 4.65 meters. Your age is given by the environmental office Lichtenberg as 250 years; it was therefore already part of a plane tree plantation on the manor of Johann Carl Sigismund von Treskow (1787–1846), after whom it is named and on whose former castle grounds the zoo was built in 1955. Significantly higher age data do not take into account that this species only emerged from a cross in England in the 18th century. The oldest maple-leaved plane tree in Germany is the Herzogenrath plane tree from around 1750.

The branches of the Treskow sycamore are often oval in cross-section, fused together very irregularly and are mutually supported with a rope.

Location

The plane tree stands as a single tree on the street corner of the property at Alfred-Kowalke-Straße 29, across from the Berlin Zoo and the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research ; on the former school yard area of the 15th elementary school, which had to give way in 2014 to the construction of a senior care home.
