Pedal shed

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A manure barn is a barn that is mainly found in bull fattening and suckler cow husbandry . It is a stable with two separate functional areas. In the lying and lounge area, the floor has a slope of between 0 and 5 percent towards the eating area. The straw littered in the lying area (approx. 2 kg per animal and day) is mixed with feces and urine and treaded as manure by the animals towards the eating area, from where it is removed by the farmer every three to four days. Due to the dead weight of the animals (which should weigh at least 180 kg) the manure slides down and the farmer only has to litter the top and muck out below .

The manure barn is only suitable for animals over 200 kg live weight and a minimum of 100 kg live weight per m² is necessary for functional safety.
