Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA) , also Tri-State Wrestling , was the name of a US promotion that was based in Sewell , New Jersey . Promoters were Bruno Zanolle , Joe Zanolle and Mike Tartaglia . The doctorate had its own wrestling school with Ringmasters Wrestling School .

history

In 1989, Joel Goodhart set up a promotion under the National Wrestling Alliance called Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA) and organized Tri-State Wrestling under the banner of NWA . It was funded by local entrepreneur Tod Gordon .

TWA as an innovative wrestling alternative

TWA quickly became known in the US independent scene for its unconventional booking and storylines that fans can easily understand .

Due to her wrestling style , which was very tough for the time , TWA became a pioneer of the later hardcore wrestling and exerted a certain influence on neighboring promotions.

TWA as a nationwide career springboard

The promotion also became a career springboard for future wrestling stars. Thus began among other wrestler Eddie Gilbert , Mike Awesome , Cactus Jack , Sandman , Chris Benoit and Owen Hart in the TWA. Big names like Terry Funk and Abdullah the Butcher were also regularly seen in the shows.

Change of ownership

TWA was one of the few NWA doctorates of the 1990s that still had a fixed TV format that could be freely received in the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. In April 1992, Joel Goodhart retired from wrestling and sold the promotion to Tod Gordon , who reorganized the promotion into the new NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling banner and then closed it.

Reactivation and permanent closure

Joel Goodhart reactivated this promotion on October 24, 2009 after it had been closed for 17 years. After the opening show, Goodhart handed over the reins to today's Booker trio. As an organization affiliated to the National Wrestling Alliance (the naming rights were still with the NWA), the TWA was involved in the American independent scene and offered many young local talents the first wrestling platform.

The reactivated TWA was seen today as the legitimate successor to the discontinued Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion that had its roots in the original TWA. The former ECW champion Steve Corino was also under contract there. In 2011 the doctorate was finally closed when the question arose whether one should join the NWA as an official association or not. Because the leadership fell out over it, the TWA was closed.
